Ways I have channelled Mum this week
A cold snap has brought out a bit more domesticity in me than spring usually warrants (I should be outside riding my bike or swimming). Here is an idea of my past week (or so):
I bought cushion covers and pulled potatoes from the garden. Granted, the cushion covers are kick-ass and modern, but they are such a domestic item. Potatoes are the mumsiest vegetable I can think of. Oh, as well as brussels sprouts. Fucking brussels sprouts.
Obi decided to take a bath. In dishwater. Dishwater that was very deep and very sudsy. I think he totally misjudged how deep it was and when I found him (after becoming a little suspicious of the splash followed by silence) he was swimming, trying to keep his head above water. Damn cute and but distressing for the poor little guy. He sat in the sun for about an hour and a half with his eyes closed drying out and calming down. I was doing the dishes after making these cookies. The dough was darned delicious. I didn’t have enough white chocolate chips so added dark chocolate as well. Epic win.
I know that knitting is a winter past time and that I will undoubtedly curse the wool when the temperature is 45 degrees Celsius (it happens here people) but I can’t help it. The wool is such a lovely colour teal and the pattern not only looks awesome but is quite easy to knit. I got the information from this page.
What have you all been doing to channel/pay tribute to your Mummies?

Oohh, that looks WAY too complicated for me.
As of now i’m just slowly going straight, trying not to drop anything and ruin it more than i already have.
But it looks beautiful, perfect style for my future project.
I’ll definitely bookmark that site.

CUTE scarf!!
I’m paying tribute to my mom in a big way soon–a tattoo haha. It’s going to be a cupcake (duh) with her name written in the icing

@Amalie – You can totally do it, I have faith in you man! I just discovered a dropped stitch in the scarf last night and had a little freak out but I have learnt how to fix them. Learning curves!
@Liz – That really is an awesome tribute! Does she know you are doing that for her? What a lovely gift

I made cushion covers, coasters and a plastic bag holder this week. And I took up some trousers. Very domestic.

Chickie Little, that really is domestic! Would you go as far as to call it the nesting instinct?
What did you make the coasters out of? I really need some but I want something interesting.

Hmm, my channelling of my mother was not as productive as yours haha.
This last weekend, I tried to question my brother about his feelings. And we all know how young males like that…
Oops.
I’ve usually prided myself on not being like Mum when I talk to him so he can come to me when he can’t go to her (sure – it’s a conspiracy – mum and I are totally working in cahoots shhhhhh).

@Kez – Sensitive area that one! Questioning family members about feelings is awkward every_single_time. I hope you were able to make some headway, even if it was only a little!

Yes she does
She always does the eye-roll thing mothers do when you get tattoos but she’s used to me having them all by now haha. And I know she is secretly stoked I’m getting one as a tribute to her.

@Liz – Parents are so good at the eye rolling. My Dad did it when I told him about my proposed hair cut. I think they learn it in parenting school.
@Corrine – Thankyou! The photos are bad but I am actually really happy with the real thing. It is a great pattern!
